The request from van Schie was to provide overhead cranes in the five new buildings. The halls are mainly for maintenance of various equipment and materials. The overhead cranes can therefore be used to lift heavier and multiple parts for maintenance. The overhead cranes will mainly lift various pieces of equipment, such as pontoons, cranes, trucks, bridge sections, driving plates, etc. The overhead cranes can also be used to load and unload various heavy materials.

Following the request, a project manager goes out to gain an insight into the project to be realized. For instance, the working environment is properly surveyed and measured. We can also discuss the customer's wishes and needs in more detail. That way, we can give the most appropriate advice possible.

After a conversation with the customer, the project manager maps out exactly what the customer requires to realize this. After we received an agreement from van Schie, we started the preparations for the project.

The cranes are manufactured according to the quotation. The cranes are delivered directly to van Schie by the manufacturer. This saves on transport!

Delivering and installing seven overhead cranes is a great project, a project we are proud to supply at van Schie.

Collaboration

What makes this project special is that van Schie was able to provide the vertical transport of the cranes itself. Besides the vertical transport of the cranes, van Schie also provided the test weight and scissor work platforms. This allowed our mechanics to test the cranes before completion without any problems.

We therefore successfully completed this project together with van Schie.

What did we deliver?

Hall 1 | Double girder with open winch work, WLL 15 tonnes. The maximum span of the overhead travelling crane is 9.61 meters.

Hall 2 | Two double girder cranes with wire rope hoist, WLL 10 tonnes. The maximum span of the overhead crane is 9.45 meters.

Hall 3 | Two double girder cranes with steel wire rope hoist, WLL 10 tonnes. The maximum span of the overhead crane is 9.31 meters.

Hall 4 | Double girder crane with steel wire rope hoist, WLL 10 tonnes. The maximum span of the overhead travelling crane is 15 meters.

Hall 5 | Single girder crane with wire rope hoist, WLL 5 tonnes. The maximum span of the overhead crane is 9.55 meters.

All overhead cranes are equipped with radio remote control, including a charging station for rechargeable batteries incl. two batteries.

After De Vet Waterbeheer submitted an enquiry to us, we immediately scheduled a visit. Before we can make a good quotation, we first visit the customer. This way, we take a good look at the working environment and can discuss the wishes and needs more thoroughly. That way, we can give the most suitable recommendation. After this was all properly mapped out, a quotation was sent. De Vet Waterbeheer accepted the offer.

Crane specifications

A pillar jib crane is a crane system that easily moves loads with a long reach. Especially around machines and workplaces, moving loads is easy. Compared to other crane systems, a pillar jib crane is easy to install and has lower product and installation costs. In this respect, the pillar jib crane is good value for money. With an arm length of eight meters and a reach of 180 degrees, the column slewing crane in De Vet Waterbeheer's hall provides more flexibility. The jib crane has a safe working load of 1,000 kg, a total column height of 5.7 meters with an eight-meter arm and is equipped with an electric chain hoist with trolley and wireless control.

More possibilities

De Vet Waterbeheer will use the pillar jib crane for maintenance and construction work on pumps and installations. By using this crane, heavy components can be easily placed and assembled without the use of manpower or a forklift truck. Think of materials commonly found in the water industry such as pipes, ducts, and pumps.

The collaboration

We spoke to De Vet Waterbeheer's contact person, "The process from the time of order to the installation of the crane was pleasant. We were kept well-informed of the expected delivery date and, as soon as the tap components were delivered here, an installation date was immediately scheduled. Furthermore, we are very happy with the pillar jib crane supplied by Mitari and the process leading up to it.” Due to the pillar jib crane's arm length of eight meters, direct delivery was required. After delivery of the pillar jib crane, various assembly work was carried out to ensure the crane was fully functioning properly.

At the fire brigade, we mainly inspect materials contained in fire trucks. We carried out inspections for no less than 135 vehicles. Our mechanics inspected lifting equipment such as chain slings, round slings, and wire ropes, fall arrestors, lashing systems, fall protection, climbing equipment, power tools, and motorized work equipment.

Maintenance and inspections

Inspections of these assets are very important to ensure firefighter safety, among other things. So what exactly does on-site inspection in the fire department entail, and why is it so essential? Mitari inspects on-site resources and equipment, for example at the barracks or in the fire engine. This allows the vehicles to remain on standby for emergencies and eliminates the need to take a fire truck or materials out of service. Naturally, it is significant that the fire brigade's equipment is safe, operates properly, and complies with current safety regulations.

It is vitally important for firefighters to be able to rely on their equipment and the functioning of equipment during a deployment. For example, it can have fatal consequences if a fall protection system does not work. On-site inspections often not only save on costs but also save a lot of time and are effective. Equipment and materials do not have to be missed, and vehicles are immediately deployable again. Proper maintenance of materials also saves unnecessary costs by preventing overdue maintenance. In addition, you are obliged to have equipment inspected annually by an EKH-certified inspection company.

In short, on-site inspection at fire departments is very important to ensure the safety of the staff. On-site inspection can cost-effectively prevent unsafe situations when deploying resources during emergencies.

Lifting Challenge

When our consultant started talking with Harry, it quickly became clear that the current waiting time, due to failures in the outdated overhead cranes, was a costly bottleneck within the production process. So costly, in fact, that replacing these cranes could be recouped within one year. In addition, both maintenance and troubleshooting became increasingly difficult with the current cranes, as spare parts were no longer marketed. Harry: "Working with an outdated system causes a lot of frustration on the shop floor. The people here want to perform well, but are held back by outdated equipment. The delivery and installation of the new overhead cranes by Mitari thus creates a positive effect on colleagues and productivity." After Harry brought the issue to us, it was up to us to address this issue and replace the outdated overhead cranes with new ones. This drastically reduces the cost of maintenance and breakdowns.

Planning en Logistics

Meco Metal N.V. has a total of about ten overhead cranes and overhead travelling cranes spread over three halls. Five cranes are severely outdated and therefore prone to failure. The disruptions in the process should be eliminated by renewing all cranes. We completed this project in a time frame of five weeks. In order for a project of such magnitude to run as short and flawlessly as possible, a tight time schedule is very important. We agreed with Meco Metal N.V. to assemble the track feed in advance so that three of the five existing overhead cranes could already be dismantled. This solution meant that the production process did not come to a standstill.

According to expectations

Harry looks back on the project progress with a positive outlook. "It's nice that, during a project of such magnitude, you don't have to worry about the employees of an external company. Saris Trailers B.V. has been in business for over 60 years. Over the years, the company has gone through a lot of development and expansion. The market is constantly changing, which means standing still is not an option. Production processes are constantly being improved. "It's a world of difference from how we work now and how we did it years ago. All trailers are produced customer order driven. Every mechanic builds his own piece to the trailer. They're all heavy components, so that's where Mitari comes in. Because, above all, the work has to be done safely and ergonomically." Explains Rob.

Stacking station

At the back of the production line is a stacking station. One of the previous projects in which Mitari played a major role. This is where all the trailers produced are stacked for transport to the dealers. They are special custom-made hoists used here, which no one has. "Mitari consultant Alex visits regularly. For specific questions, we then spar together to find a suitable solution. Something new is put together from available materials or a whole new solution that doesn't yet exist comes along." John and Rob explain that Saris is a company that values long-term relationships. "Mitari knows how we work and that makes it easy to support us." 

Expansion welding shop

A new challenge Saris recently called us about was the expansion of the welding shop with three new robots. This greatly increases capacity, quality and flexibility, allowing Saris to meet customer demand and be ready for the future. The new welding cells are set up in a way that all products can be welded. Together with Saris, we have equipped these welding cells with special hoists. The operator can insert and unload parts and complete chassis from the welding jig. A different approach to welding, ready for the future!

Expansion has created the need for a new lifting solution. In addition to the two already existing production lines, SARIS Trailers plans to start a new line of trailers soon. At the end of each production line is a stacking station. Here trailers are prepared for transport. This is done by stacking them on top of each other. This makes loading for transport easier.

The Crane System

The newly installed stacking station, is almost identical to the previously installed stacking stations. The crane system consists of a large frame with four beams. A 400-volt electric chain hoist with an electric trolley is mounted on each beam. The four hoists are controlled with a central radio control. In this way, the working area of the hoists can be reduced or increased. This makes the stacking station flexible and ready for the future. Indeed, various types of trailers can be lifted with this hoisting solution

At this customer's site we inspected for the first time this year. Previously they supplied lifting equipment to be inspected in our workshop. The advantage of on-site inspection is that you don't have to miss the lifting equipment for a long time. 

On-site inspection work

As the quantity of material and equipment increases, it becomes more cost-effective to have an inspector come on site. Such was the case with this client. Our inspector John went on site to inspect all the lifting equipment. When a Mitari inspector comes to your workplace or company, your work is minimally interrupted. At this sewer technology company, the inspector finished testing and inspecting all lifting equipment present at the work site within a day.

When inspecting lifting equipment on site, lifting equipment is inspected for any damage or wear. We also check whether the hoisting equipment still meets the set standards and guidelines and whether it can still be used safely. Annual inspections

Wil's job is to make sure there are enough materials so that everyone can do the job properly. This also relates to the tools to work safely, such as lifting equipment. The molds used for production are heavy and it is labor intensive to change them. With lifting equipment, this is easily done, but to ensure safety, the equipment must be inspected annually. According to Wil, the cooperation could not be better: "Good agreements, clear communication and tight planning. In November I was already aware of the scheduled inspection in February. When the inspector leaves here, I can just assume that everything is good."

Empathize with the costumer

While Wil talks about the cooperation, Maintenance Manager Pierre Bouwens joins the canteen table. According to him, the company is now playing in the fifth division and in order to get promoted, we need to win more. "If I look through the glasses of the technical department, it means we have to do preventive maintenance better. Looking at inspections and stuff we have, that has to be tightly organized. As technical service we are professionalizing and Mitari is a player in that with whom we are in contact. For us, Mitari is already playing fourth class." Pierre prefers to see suppliers as partners because then you can make agreements differently and take more responsibility. That when you come in, you already know where to go and who makes decisions. Headquarters thyssenkrupp Materials Netherlands is located in Veghel, where we spoke to Willem and Rob. Willem ensures that staff work in the right way by training and educating them about working safely. That includes instructions on how to work with cranes, lifting tools and forklifts, for example. "Because I am so close to the employees, I can see very well what is needed," says Willem. Therefore, he is also largely responsible for the resources and tools that are used.

If it's a complex question, an appointment is scheduled to come up with the best possible solution for the lifting challenge. The question always comes from the work field. During the physical work training sessions, the question of aids sometimes arises because lifting is too heavy. This is also how a crane was installed a few years back. "The service and contact with Mitari is very good. They really think in terms of solutions. The advisor hears the story and comes up with appropriate advice. That way we don't have to put energy and time into it. Fast, short and good!"

Future

If it is up to Rob and Willem, the cooperation will not be short-lived. The Mitari inspectors who inspect at Thyssenkrupp come back more often. They say that's good, because then an inspector doesn't have to be instructed every time. Rob says: "We are not into short-term collaborations. If it's a good fit, we like to see what else we can do. The bond between thyssenkrupp and Mitari came about this way because we know better and better what we can gain from each other. It is not staged that the catalog is here on my desk. We see that agreements are kept and that everything is well taken care of."

Before we could actually get started on the installation, it was important to take a good look at the site and analyze it. We mapped out the dimensions of the space and the weight of the materials to be lifted and created a plan based on this. This plan was discussed in detail with the Stone Natural Class employees so that everyone was aware of what was going to happen.

The installation of the cranes

With the plan in hand, we started installing the cranes. The overhead cranes have a span of 21.5 meters. This was a challenge because there was little room to maneuver. To get the cranes into place, we used a telehandler. This allowed us to place the cranes safely and precisely in the right place. The wall-mounted slewing cranes were, of course, attached to the wall.

After the cranes were hung in place, we began assembly. We carefully assembled the faucets and made sure that all parts were securely and safely attached. In doing so, we used special tools and techniques to ensure that everything was assembled correctly.

Test Phase and Delivery

After assembly, it was time for the testing phase. We tested the cranes extensively to make sure they worked safely and efficiently. Here we looked at the maximum working load of the cranes and whether it was sufficient for the materials being moved at Stone Natural Class. We also looked at the safety of the cranes and whether they met all the requirements.

After the testing phase, it was time for delivery. We extensively instructed Stone Natural Class employees on the use and maintenance of the cranes. In doing so, we also showed them how to use the cranes safely and efficiently. We also handed over all the documentation and certificates so that Stone Natural Class could keep them for their own records.

Conclusion

All in all, the on-site installation of the crane systems at Stone Natural Class was a challenging project, but one that we successfully completed. Through proper preparation, accurate placement and assembly, extensive testing and thorough instructions to Stone Natural Class employees, we have ensured that the cranes can be used safely and efficiently. We are proud of the end result and are confident that Stone Natural Class is now able to handle the heavy materials even better. We can say that this is a successful project, the installation of two crane girders with a working load of 5000 KG at a customer's site. The color of the overhead crane was completely adapted to the customer's corporate identity. The crane was installed in a new hall, significantly improving the appearance of the shop floor.

After discussing the specific needs of Alga Stairs, we began developing a solution that would meet those needs. The process included designing and building the necessary components, testing the systems, and finally delivering the project to Alga Stairs.

Control 10 hoist with one control

The main problem we solved for Alga was developing a system where 10 electric chain hoists work together under one radiograph. This was a challenging task because the number of hoists that can operate under one radiograph is usually limited. We solved this problem by developing a customized solution that perfectly suited Alga Stairs' needs.

After several weeks of hard work, Mitari finally delivered 30 electric hoists along with three radio controllers. The system was designed to meet the specific requirements of Alga stairs and was tested to ensure its proper operation.

With this crane system, Alga stairs can now easily lift and move large objects. This will help them improve and speed up their production processes, making them more efficient.

Lucas Schoot Natuursteen is a company that supplies exclusive natural stones to customers all over the world. The natural stones are worked in the workshop in Oss and are very heavy in weight. Moving these materials is therefore not an easy job and therefore a suitable lifting solution was desired. We were happy to help find the right solution.

The overhead crane

After an extensive survey of Lucas Schoot Natuursteen's needs and requirements, we designed a lifting crane with a 25-meter span. This is quite exceptional and makes it possible to move materials in all directions. Due to the single girder overhead crane, the crane has a dead weight of 5 tons and a WLL of 2,000 kg. This allows the company to move heavy natural stones around the workshop with ease. With its white coating, the crane is fully customized to match the company's own style.

After the design phase, we assembled the crane in our own workshop in Best. This allowed us to commission the crane quickly and efficiently after assembly. The crane is fully equipped with all conveniences and completely tailored to the company's own style. It is always our goal to satisfy our customers, which is why we went out of our way to make the crane completely to their liking.

When the crane was ready for transport, we had to consider the length of the crane. Ordinary transport was not possible and therefore this was only allowed to take place between 10:00 and 15:00. With Scheepers' help, we were able to smoothly transport the crane inside. As always, we put the safety and well-being of our employees and environment first during transport

All in all, we are proud of the lifting solution we provided to Lucas Schoot Natuursteen. We delivered a customized solution that was completely tailored to the company's needs and requirements.

The company has housed itself in Valkenswaard for many years, but is becoming a growing player in the international market when it comes to buses, coaches and chassis modules. The cooperation between VDL Special Vehicles and Mitari Hijstechniek B.V. is still fresh. This is in fact the second year that inspectors are on site to carry out tests, inspections and any maintenance and repairs to the lifting and hoisting equipment. Despite this, Patrick is happy to tell more about the cooperation: "At the moment it is actually going perfectly. Everything is going pretty smoothly. Of course sometimes it's a bit of a search for how we do things or what needs to be done to improve, but then we shift gears quickly." 

Patrick ensures at VDL Special Vehicles that there are enough goods in stock that make production possible so that the work is well supported. He indicates that the inspectors are very proactive and that when they come in they get to work almost immediately because they know how things work. Previously, VDL Special Vehicles had another party in-house to handle the testing and inspections. Unfortunately, that no longer met the wishes and needs. The price and way of working was then the deciding factor to switch to Mitari. When we discuss the cooperation, we prefer not to talk only about the positive points. As an expert for safe lifting and hoisting, we find it important to keep improving our services. This is only possible if we remain critical. When we ask Patrick what could be improved, he indicates that in the future there may be more needs for climbing equipment in the production halls. The lifting equalizer we delivered to Lodewikus Beton B.V. is an impressive feat of engineering and technology. It is a composite equalizer with a working load of fifteen tons and a length of no less than 52 meters. It is difficult to imagine the size of this lifting equalizer, but it is undoubtedly an imposing sight.

Support and stability

The lifting equalizer is used in lifting the reinforcing steel of the bridge girders. For our client in the high-tech industry, we delivered a custom-made adjustable stainless steel lifting yoke. This type of lifting yoke is made of stainless steel (RVS) and has a maximum working load of ten tons and a length of 2.7 meters. It is an ideal tool for moving loads in a clean room, where hygiene and sterility are of great importance. The stainless steel material is resistant to corrosion and can be easily cleaned and disinfected.

Adjustable lifting equator

The H-frame we made has a safe working load of 100 kg. The dimensions of the frame are 2.32 meters in length by 0.326 meters in width. The frame has one docking point at the top and three docking points at the bottom, one on one side and two on the other. This design makes the frame easy to handle and can be adapted to different lifting needs.

Stainless steel

The frame is made of stainless steel (RVS), a material known for its durability and corrosion resistance. The use of stainless steel ensures that the frame can withstand the high humidity and chemicals often used in a clean room.

Green Pin

To ensure that the frame can be used safely, we have equipped it with three stainless steel harp chest bolt closures and three stainless steel flap hooks from the Green Pin brand. These fasteners and hooks are designed to safely support the weight and prevent the frame from unintentionally detaching. The WLL (Working Load Limit) designation of the frame is displayed on decals specifically designed for clean room use. These decals have a High Tack adhesive, which means they adhere well to the surface of the frame and will not come off due to cleanroom conditions.
